Daily Homework
Purpose of homework: Homework is a review of the concept or skill which was taught during class.
*Please note that the chart above represents what homework may look like throughout the school year. However, students' homework may not always reflect the chart above. The chart is used as a guideline and there will be times where students will not have homework in a certain subject area or at all.*
Homework is typically given throughout the week - Monday through Thursday. Although, homework may not be given every day, students are expected to read every night for at least 15 minutes. As the school year progresses students should increase the amount of time spent reading each night with a goal of at least 20 minutes or more.
Students will write down their homework in their student planner. As third graders, it is their responsibility to complete their own homework. As a parent/guardian, it is okay to monitor and guide your child as needed but remind them that it is their job!
How can you help?
- Having a routine for your child is extremely important. It provides structure and consistency. It also helps build a strong work ethic as the students progress through each grade. As it is equally important for students to take part in sports and other after-school activities, students and parents should come up with a routine/schedule to ensure homework is completed!
- Find a good working environment for your child. (We encourage and recommend finding a quiet spot where there are limited distractions, such as a television).
- Talk to your child about their work. Having your child explain the concept, skill, or story to you is a great way to check for understanding.
- If your child is struggling with the homework assignment please make a note on the sheet, so I can review the skill or concept again in school.
All homework will be a direct reinforcement or review of the skill or concept taught in class!
Thank you for your support in your child's education!
Language ArtsOur goal is to encourage students to build a love and passion for reading!
It is extremely important for students to read everyday for at least 20 minutes, as it will help build upon their word recognition, fluency, and comprehension. It is also helpful for students to read aloud once in awhile. Reading aloud will also help improve their reading fluency and reading stamina. Students love talking about the book they are reading! Asking your child questions about their book will help with reading comprehension and it might spark a wonderful conversation! Reading:
